4 Tips to Protect Yourself When Purchasing Porn on the Internet
by Harry Nutsack
Are you afraid to make a purchase to a porn website? Afraid hackers will get your contact and credit card information? Or your wife will find out? I have been subscribing to online websites for over ten years. I have been refining system that I use that I would like to share with. It limits any mishaps that may occur and limits my risks.
Rule 1. Have an open relationship with your partner about your porn viewing
After the second time my wife deleted all my porn I said enough is enough. My colleague had taken to hiding his porn collection on his computer deep in the core of his operating system files. I too could have taken this path. I could have hidden it better on my home computer, encrypted and prevent her access to the folder. It was not like I was storing the files on my desktop. She had to access a directory that stated “Harry’s Files.” She went into my folder and deleted my porn. It was after contemplating what steps I should make to protect my porn collection is when I had an epiphany: If this relationship was going to work, she will have to respect my space. We had an open conversation regarding my porn collection. We discussed and at the end of the conversation she said she would not delete my porn again. To this day she has not.
Rule 2. Cancel the membership right after signing up
Here is a secret adult websites do not want you to know: 95% percent of subscribers do not cancel their memberships before the recurring charge happens again. What does this mean? You join an adult website at $19.99 for the first month, after the first month your credit card will be charged again. You want to see the pictures/videos/story right away with the intention of unsubscribing at a later date. You come back to the site later for a quick masturbation moment planning to unsubscribe. This cycle continues until you get your credit card bill showing you have been charged for another month. This is a common practice in running adult websites. The adult websites believe they are performing you a service by having the recurring charges, so you will not have to take the time to resubscribe. Some websites will even charge you extra money to only have a one time charge. This is a business and it is a way for the adult sites to make more money. Few websites use this as a selling feature stating they do not have recurring billing. Unfortunately they do this at an increase cost of the membership purchase.
A plus side for the adult industry is that is usually easy to unsubscribe. A few minutes and you are done. If you like the site you can always resubscribe. (Microsoft Xbox Live can learn a few lessons about unsubscribing from the online adult industry. To unsubscribe from Xbox live you have to call a number, wait on line, listen to the operator make a pitch to keep you as a member, then unsubscribe).
Rule 3. Have a low limit credit card specifically for online adult subscriptions
Having a low limit credit card just for online adult subscriptions is a good way to reduce your risk. If the site you subscribe to gets hacked and hackers gain access to your credit card number, you can cancel the credit card right away, knowing it is only going effect your waking off. Plus with a low limit of under $100 you have reduced your risk even more.
Rule 4. Create a free email address just for use with online adult websites
This make it easier to track the websites you are currently signed up with. Early on in my adult online viewing days, my harddrive died that stored the link to the website I was currently subscribed to. I used an email client that stored my email on my local computer. After the harddrives painful death I did not have the link to the site anymore, could not view the porn, nor unsubscribe. After three months of reoccurring billing (I procrastinated in canceling, this led to the creation of Rul2) I had to contact my credit card company and ask them to reverse the charges (they did) and ask them to cancel the subscription (they did). This issue was entirely my fault and I could not blame anyone but myself, lesson learned. But having a free email address, say Gmail, you will be able to keep track of the sites you are signing up to. Plus when the adult sites send out promotions it will go to this email address.
In Conclusion
These 4 rules have helped me out and I thought I would share them. Please post any comment, recommendations you may have in the comments. (You do not have to create an account to post comments)
